Urban Picnics is a small guide to eating outdoors in busy cities. Every page pairs places you are allowed to sit with cheap, independent places to buy food nearby.

How places get chosen

Picnic spots have to be free, publicly accessible, and pleasant enough that you'd stay an hour. Food has to be independent, cheap by local standards, and portable — nothing that needs a plate.

Walking times are straight-line distances with a correction for real streets, so treat them as close estimates rather than promises.
